We specialize in the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of diseases and conditions of the colon, rectum and anus. We have been trained and certified in general surgery and have received additional advanced training and board certification in colon and rectal surgery and treatment.
During a colonoscopy, the physician examines the inside of the colon and rectum using a flexible tube with a tiny camera on the end. Colonoscopy is generally done on an outpatient basis. Patients are sedated and generally feel no discomfort.
Colonoscopy is a screening exam for colon cancer. During colonoscopy, your physician can detect and remove polyps. Some polyps, if not removed, could develop into cancer.
For patients with no family history of colon problems and no symptoms, we recommend the first colonoscopy at or before age 45. Other patients may need a colonoscopy sooner and should speak with their doctor for a recommendation.
Recommendations for frequency of colonoscopy may vary from patient to patient. We will advise you based on your particular risk factors, and we will work with you to determine whether your insurance will cover a repeat procedure at the interval we recommend.
